THE GODS CAN'T POSSIBLE LIKE ME ENOUGH TO ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN
There is so much awesomeness in the new Public Policy Polling survey of Iowa that I don't know where to begin. First of all: you know that Mitt Romney is behind Newt Gingrich in just about every recent Iowa poll, and behind Ron Paul in some polls. But, um, could he possibly finish fourth in Iowa? Well...
Newt Gingrich has taken the lead in PPP's newest poll of Iowa Republican caucus voters with 27% to 18% for Ron Paul, 16% for Mitt Romney, 13% for Michele Bachmann, 9% for Rick Perry, 6% for Rick Santorum, 4% for Jon Huntsman, and 1% for Gary Johnson.
Gingrich has gained 19 points since PPP's last poll of the race in early October. Also showing momentum are Paul whose support is up 8% and Bachmann whose support is up 5%. Romney has dropped 6 points since then with the other candidates mostly standing in place....
Yowzah! She's getting hot, or at least warm, just at the right time! She's got -- as it were -- the Big Mo!
I'm loving this. (Emphasis added above.)
I don't want a party that's gone this crazy to be able to conceal its true nature by nominating Mitt Romney. I want the in-denial political-insider world to be compelled to come to terms with what the GOP has become. A Gingrich/Paul/Bachmann win/place/show in Iowa, with Romney completely out of the running, would be ideal.
PPP keeps putting up tweets that highlight particular results from this poll -- and much of the news for Romney isn't good. There's this:
Romney's biggest problem in Iowa- more than half of his 2008 supporters in the state now for someone else
Ouch. And this:
Voters most concerned about ... electability: Gingrich up 39-11
And my favorite -- this:
Top issue for Iowa Republicans is gov't spending and the deficit. Romney is only 4th with those voters
Mr. Businessman Cheapskate Billionaire isn't even winning as the best fiscal steward! Awesome.
This can't last -- I can't possibly be getting this for Christmas. I just know Gingrich will implode, Bachmann will drop back again, the Paulbots won't show up at the caucuses, and Romney will take it just the way all the Beltway insiders say he will. My dreams can't possibly come true -- can they?
UPDATE: Talking Points Memo says Bachmann is now claiming to have won the support of nineteen prominent backers of Herman Cain in Iowa (if "prominent backers of Herman Cain" isn't a contradiction in terms).
