WHAT WE SAY TO WINGNUTS, AND WHAT THEY HEAR

Headline in the New York Daily News:

Shepard Fairey-designed Obama portrait on cover of Rolling Stone deifies, questions President

Wingnut blogger Sister Toldjah's reinterpretation of that headline:

New issue of Rolling Stone deifies Obama

Gateway Pundit's version:

Liberal State Worshippers Deify Their god Obama

JammieWearingFool's version:

Rolling Stone Deifies Dear Leader

Um, what happened to "questions"?

Here's the actual cover:

See that huge word COMPROMISE in the upper right? Notice that the full text of the band around Obama's head is "Will he take BOLD ACTION or COMPROMISE too easily?" Notice also that the Daily News headline reads the band as a halo (fair enough), hence "deifies," but also sees the text in the band as skeptical -- hence "questions"? (And note that even though the panel is skewed left -- hey, no fair! no panel anywhere in the media is ever skewed right, right? -- every person on the panel has been seriously critical of Obama at times?)

Ah, but Gary Larson understood wingnut-think a long time ago:
