THE EXPERTS SPEAK!

Here's the opening of the latest column by right-wing-apparatchik-in-eminence-grise-clothing Michael Barone:

We've been hearing a lot of criticism of Barack Obama in recent days from pro-Obama corners -- from celebrity investor Warren Buffett, from moderate conservative columnist David Brooks, from one of the Democratic Party's deepest thinkers, William Galston....

Jeez, Mike -- you try to tick off a "pro-Obama" list and your second name is a dyed-in-the-wool Buckleyite Republican? And #3 is a supporter of Hillary Clinton in the primaries who went on to show what a "deep thinker" he was by writing this in mid-September?

TO: SEN. BARACK OBAMA
FROM: WILLIAM GALSTON
SUBJ: ADJUST OR LOSE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 16, 2008

I'll get right to the point: You are in danger of squandering an election most of us thought was unlosable. The reason is simple: on the electorate's most important concern -- the economy -- you have no clear message, and John McCain has filled the void with his own.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, and by the way, Galston's current complaint about Obama's "too-long wish list" is nothing new -- in fact, he was already making the same argument on Election Day.

The not-so-good news is that expectations are sky-high and that some of his supporters will press him to throw caution to the wind and emulate FDR's first 100 days, or LBJ's feverish legislative pace in 1965 and 1966. This is a temptation Obama would do well to resist.

Galston is disheartened because he was never really heartened.
