As phleabo notes in the comments to an earlier post, we can probably stop talking about the pan-ideological appeal of a Bloomberg-Hagel '08 ticket:
Gun giveaway thumbs nose at NYC mayor
ANNANDALE, Va. -- Openly armed firearms enthusiasts packed a normally sedate government building, hoping to win a pistol or rifle and at the same time send a defiant message to gun-control advocates, especially New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun-rights group, organized the "Bloomberg Gun Giveaway" in large part to thumb its nose at Bloomberg, who accuses some shops of allowing illegal purchases of firearms that later were used in crimes in his city.
The city has filed federal lawsuits against more than two dozen shops, including six in Virginia....
A Bloomberg third-party run will take votes away from the Democrat -- period.
By the way, just for the record, I'm looking at 2005 crime statistics (per 100,000 population) for New York State and Virginia. New York has a higher rate of robbery and aggravated assault. Virginia, however, has a higher rate of murder, rape, burglary, larceny/theft, and vehicle theft. Choose your poison, I guess.
