We know that sneering right-wingers (in and out of the administration) think France and Germany are effeminate, risk-averse states that have wallowed in pacifism for half a century (a bit longer, in France's case). But how do they explain the fact Russia also wants inspections to continue? Was Russia not sufficiently bellicose in the latter half of the twentieth century? Were the Soviet Union's twenty million deaths in World War II not enough to suggest that perhaps a nation can oppose an Iraq war without being made up entirely of "cheese-eating surrender monkeys"?
